Early Childhood Center in a Synagogue

With the goal of increasing enrollment and strengthening community at an early childhood education center located in a synagogue, Blender designed . The entrance will serve the Synagogue community as well and can be used as a meeting space.  The Master Plan also facilitates program expansion by adding 2-Year Old classrooms, creating improved Teacher Resource space, a Warming Kitchen, re-organizing multi-use areas, and upgrading interior finishes. Plus a new nature-based outdoor play area!

The Master Planning process has been a tool for the School and the Synagogue to communicate about their needs and identify the space accommodation that best supports all building users. Blender has been collaborating with the Synagogue representatives to coordinate facility mechanical and window replacement upgrades with proposed work to the classroom areas. The plans also facilitate the School’s process of seeking State of Illinois licensing.

Blender first became involved with the School, through a collaboration with CannonDesign, as early childhood education consultant.  The original project was to create a new early childhood center on the school’s main campus, and to renovate portions of the existing school building, re-envisioning a new Learning Commons in an existing Library space, and a STEAM Lab in a dedicated Science Room.
